The SERUM BETA HCG test, also known as the Beta hCG blood test, measures the level of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in the bloodstream. hCG is a hormone produced during pregnancy. This test is commonly used to confirm pregnancy, monitor pregnancy progression, and assess the risk of certain medical conditions

Blood Sample: A healthcare provider will collect a blood sample, usually from a vein in your arm, using a needle and a syringe or a specialized blood collection tube.

Laboratory Analysis: The blood sample is sent to a laboratory for analysis. There, the concentration of hCG in the sample is measured

Fasting or special preparation is generally not required for the SERUM BETA HCG test. You can typically eat and drink normally before the test.

You may feel a brief pinch or discomfort when the needle is inserted to draw the blood sample. Afterward, there might be some mild bruising or soreness at the site, but this is typically temporary.

Normal results for the SERUM BETA HCG test vary depending on the stage of pregnancy. Typically, in early pregnancy:

Positive: A positive result confirms pregnancy.

hCG Levels: hCG levels should increase over time during a healthy pregnancy

Abnormal results can indicate various conditions, such as:

Ectopic Pregnancy: Low or slow-rising hCG levels may suggest an ectopic pregnancy.

Miscarriage: A sudden drop in hCG levels may indicate a miscarriage.

Gestational Trophoblastic Disease: Abnormal hCG levels can be a sign of gestational trophoblastic diseases, including molar pregnancies
