Test Details

The TORCH-5 IGG test is a diagnostic blood test that detects the presence of IgG antibodies against specific pathogens. TORCH is an acronym that represents Toxoplasma, Rubella, Cytomegalovirus, Herpes simplex virus (HSV), and other infections. This test helps determine if a person has been exposed to these pathogens in the past, whether through infection or vaccination.

Blood Sample: A healthcare provider will collect a blood sample, typically from a vein in your arm, using a needle and a syringe or a specialized blood collection tube.

Laboratory Analysis: The blood sample is sent to a laboratory for analysis. There, the presence of IgG antibodies against the TORCH pathogens is assessed.

Fasting or special preparation is usually not necessary for the TORCH-5 IGG test. You can typically eat and drink normally before the test.

You may feel a brief pinch or discomfort when the needle is inserted to draw the blood sample. Afterward, there might be some mild bruising or soreness at the site, but this is generally temporary.

Normal results for the TORCH-5 IGG test mean that IgG antibodies against the TORCH pathogens are detected in the blood. This suggests prior exposure to these pathogens, indicating past infection or vaccination.

Lack of Exposure: The absence of IgG antibodies against one or more of the TORCH pathogens may suggest that the individual has not been previously exposed to these pathogens.

The TORCH-5 IGG test is a routine blood test and is generally safe. Risks are minimal and may include:

Mild bruising at the blood sample site.

Rarely, fainting or lightheadedness during or after the blood draw

The TORCH-5 IGG test may also be known as:

TORCH panel IgG test

TORCH screen IgG test

Congenital infection screen IgG test
